Challenge Melbourne 2016
No doubt all Challenge Melbourne competitors went to bed the night before the Half IRONMAN at Challenge Melbourne listening to thunder and torrential rain, wondering what the weather gods were going to serve up the following morning. Especially considering the first year of this event saw a 40 deg day, followed by heavy rain and wind last year.
Fortunately, third time lucky and the conditions were favourable for the 1.9km swim/90km ride/21.1 run. The atmosphere at this event was amazing and the Nuna blue was again out in force represented in both competitors and spectators. Highlights of the day included Matty P leading the Nuna charge and is now currently having all training records under review by the STP and Buzz claiming Nick as his body guard to protect him from Aidan who was apparently stalking him.
Congratulations to all competitors in both the sprint and the Half IRONMAN – us spectators loved seeing you out there giving it your best!
Anyone within a 5km radius of Brighton would have heard the encouragement and support from the Nuna member voices at the run course aid station. A HUGE THANK-YOU to Jo-Anne and all the volunteers who gave up their time on Sunday morning to help out. Although you may not get many thank-you’s at the time, the difference your enthusiasm makes to a weary athlete on course is immeasurable. The support from everyone was out of the ball park and next to none and is what makes this club stand-out.
